Marine Innovation Wave Hits Southampton
A wave of cutting edge maritime innovations will be highlighted in Southampton this October during 3 specialist one day events for the sub IMO / sub 24 metre professional sector.
The unique NEXT GENERATION Workshops bring together an international group of experts armed with the latest knowledge to identify problems that affect the maritime sector worldwide – and highlight potential solutions!
Topics are relevant to Workboats, Pilot Boats, Patrol Boats, Search & Rescue, Wind Farm Support, Fishing, Survey Vessels, Superyacht Tenders and the emerging market for Unmanned Surface Vessels. Workshop attendees include Boat Builders, Equipment Manufacturers, Service Providers, Designers and Classification Societies.
Workshop Lead John Haynes said, ‘We focus on viable innovation and using people’s time effectively. We also know that having the right people onboard is essential and there is no substitute for meeting the experts face to face when asking the hard questions. We are really proud to welcome onboard this great group of innovators.'
SKYDEX Technologies – US
SKYDEX Technologies is a global leader in impact mitigation and cushioning solutions with technology installed in over 20,000 military vehicles and 6,000 marine craft.
SKYDEX engineers have developed shock mitigating seat cushions for the marine sector ranging from ‘jockey-style’ seating on RIBs to ‘truck-style’ seating on wheelhouse and cabin vessels.
SKYDEX solutions are particularly suitable for vessels unable to accommodate mechanical suspension seating due to weight / footprint / cost. Metrics demonstrate how foam cushions can be replaced with innovative SKYDEX cushions to reduce the effects of RS (Repeated Shock) and WBV (Whole Body Vibration). This improved protection can be achieved within the existing seat footprint and with no weight gain.
SKYDEX CEO and President James Taylor said, ‘Our proprietary technology is engineered to excel in the harshest and most demanding conditions. We are pleased to support this unique event that enables us to launch new products that are relevant to maritime professionals in Europe and worldwide.’
SHOXS – Canada
The SHOXS engineering team works closely with suppliers to develop a wide range of technology led products to meet the shock mitigation requirements of boat builders and end user organisations.
The objective is high quality engineering coupled with a variety of configurations. The SHOXS product line is constantly advanced through sea trials, lab testing, science and engineering.
Following their high-profile outfitting of shock mitigated seating solutions to 60 Royal Navy Pacific 24 MkIV RHIBs, SHOXS will be explaining the technologies that placed them first in the UK Ministry of Defense's gruelling selection process.
SHOXS CEO and President Paul Taylor said, 'The entire team at SHOXS are committed to leading safety standards and reducing injury to those who have dedicated their lives to serving their country and communities including maritime security, search and rescue, law enforcement and commercial support operations.'
WING Inflatables – US
WING Inflatables specializes in designing and manufacturing 4 types of RHIB tubes / sponsons. Air, Air / Foam, Hybrid and Foam sponsons can be made to fit virtually any design of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB).
WING partners with some of the finest OEM RHIB builders in the world and currently provides sponsons for approximately 90 percent of US military RHIBs.
Today’s Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) must perform in some pretty rough environments. When considering warfighters’ missions, those requirements run the gamut from daily patrols to special operations in austere conditions.
WING CEO and President Andrew Branagh said, 'The US Department of Defense approached WING about producing Combat Rubber Raiding Craft using the same materials as WING sponsons. After supporting a full conversion by the US Air Force, Wing is currently in production to supply up to 1500 5.8 and 4.7 metre inflatable boats to the US Army and 2100 4.7 metre boats to the US Navy.'
Next Generation Fast Craft Fleets
Boat builders and specialist component manufacturers now recognise that they need to work together to develop next generation systems that fit the rapidly changing requirements of modern fleets. The unique knowledge gained from these workshop sessions will help to shape long term decisions that lead to improvements for in-service systems and procurement of next generation vessels.
Grand Harbour Southampton – A Great Maritime Venue
The fast moving workshop style programme is being held ‘back to back’ at the superb Grand Harbour Hotel overlooking the port of Southampton. People can choose to attend single days or all 3 days. The standard attendee rate is £250 per day. British Marine, SSA and RINA members receive 20% discount. There are also limited places for Government and Military attendees at 50% discount.
